Our Story
Bushel and Barrel Ciderhouse is the heart and soul of Melissa Kittrell, a Texas-born Navy veteran with a deep love for animals and adventure. After her time in Washington state, she combined her passion for cider and animals into the farm we know today. As the owner, cidermaker, and animal caretaker, Melissa has created a place where people can experience the world through her unique lens. Her travels inspire the farm's events, like the colorful HOLI fest and Oktoberfest, bringing diverse cultures to Kitsap. Whether it's through a delicious glass of cider or an exciting festival, Melissa's vision is to connect with the community in a way that feels warm, fun, and just a little bit eccentric - just like the farm itself!

Our Ciders
At the heart of Bushel & Barrel is Melissa Kittrell, our owner, cider maker, and operator. A proud Navy veteran, Melissa began her cider-making journey during her military service, and later refined her craft through professional training at the Cider & Perry Academy in Gloucester, England, where she studied across two semesters.
Melissa specializes in farmhouse-style apple ciders that reflect her travels through Somerset, England—where local farmers shared their proudest cider creations in rustic back rooms and raised pints while swapping stories. That same spirit is alive and well at Bushel & Barrel, where every cider tells a tale.
You’ll always find rotating seasonal offerings on tap, but a few of our flagship favorites include:
Scrumpy Bear – A traditional apple-forward cider, crisp and dry, just like the scrumpy you'd find on a Somerset farm.
Landmine Cider – A bold blend of peach and ancho chili, with a purpose. A portion of proceeds supports efforts to remove landmines in Cambodia, blending flavor with impact.
Each batch is small-batch, artisan-crafted, and filled with the heart of the orchard. We invite you to come sip, savor, and share in the story!
